Wilma Whisenant
Wilma Willie Pritchard Whisenant, 91, of Newland, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at her residence. Born in Atlanta, Ga., April 26, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William Pritchard and Creddie Huskey Pritchard. Wilma was a member of Wildwood Advent Christian Church. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and was an excellent cook. Wilma is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Jones and husband, Jerry, of Newland, Judy Pritchard of Morganton and Peggy Whisenant, of Spruce Pine; a son, Clyde Gary Whisenant, of Alexander Co.; grandchildren, Tammy Jones, Rhonda Wilson, Tracy Houck, Michael Crump, Jerry Dale Jones, Chris Pritchard, Amanda Whisenant, and Brandon Whisenant; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Cora Barrier, of Morganton and Esther Shatley, of Lenoir. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Edward Whisenant; son, William Everette Whisenant; and brothers, Willard, Elmer, Millard, and John Pritchard. The graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., today (Tuesday, Feb. 19), at Wildwood Advent Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Raby officiating. The family will receive friends in the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Medi Home Hospice of Avery County, P.O. Box 1357, Newland, NC 28657. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
