Rodney "Dabber" Whisenant

MORGANTON Rodney "Dabber" Whisenant, 51, of Morganton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, after several years of declining health. Born in Burke County, N.C., April 26, 1961, he was the son of the late Nelson Andrew Whisenant and Sarah 'Tincy" Allman Whisenant. Dabber was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and was an avid outdoorsman. He attended Freedom High School and was employed at Viscotec Automotive Products, prior to becoming disabled. Dabber is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lisa Yelton Whisenant, of the home; a son, Rodney "Roo" Whisenant II and wife, Jessica, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a grandson, Nykolas Whisenant; sisters, Joyce Whisenant Pharr and husband, Walter, Maxine Whisenant Roper and husband, Forest, and Rebecca Dale W. Clark, all of Morganton; a brother-in-law, Robert Yelton; sisters-in-law, Diane Yelton, Karen Bowen, and Teresa Truesdale; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dabber was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tony and Janie Harrison Allman, and Cleveland and Lola Whisenant; and a very special aunt and uncle, Leon and Ella Allman Hudson. The graveside service will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, March 1, at Burke Memorial Park, with the Rev. Francis King officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2608, Morganton, NC 28680, to assist with funeral expenses.
