Mrs. Shirley Whisenant Martin

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Shirley Whisenant Martin passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at Moses Cone Hospital.

She was born in Alamance County to the late Floyd Whisenant and the late Myrtle Lewis Whisenant and was the wife of 60 years to Harold Grey Martin who survives.

Shirley was a former LPN nurse with Dr. Clinton Crissman and retired as an LPN with Alamance Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Moose Lodge and a former member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Harold G. Martin of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon Lee and Phyllis Martin of Mebane; daughter, Lori Martin Hardy of Elon; grandson, Jonathan Lee Martin; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Mary Whisenant of Kernersville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Geraldine Thompson, Edith Love, Lorene Horner, Gracie Whisenant and brother, Melvin Whisenant.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Wade Cox with entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home.
