H. Marcell Whisnant
Marcell Whisnant, 82, of East Twenty-first Street, Newton, died Nov. 16, 2006, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Born April 30, 1924, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late John Thurmond Whisnant and Gertie Ethel Barringer Whisnant.
A member of North Newton Baptist Church, he was employed by Broyhill Furniture and Hickory Chair as a rip saw operator and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Hamrick Whisnant of the home; a daughter, Cathy Whisnant of Conover; Bill and Robin Johnson, Shawn and Debbie Waterson and a number of other nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Pete Waterson; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted by the Revs. Lloyd King and Katherine Earley at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at North Newton Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
