Opal A. Williams Whisenant
Opal Addle Whisenant, 93, of Gentry, Arkansas, died April 4, 2013, at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehab, Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Born June 11, 1919, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Robert Lee Williams and Mary Lou Brock Williams. She had lived in Roswell, New Mexico, and Amarillo, Texas, prior to moving to Arkansas in 1994.
On October 1, 1936, she married J.C. Whisenant in Terry County, Texas. Opal worked as a quality inspector for Northrup during World War II and also worked as a certified nursing assistant. She and her husband were owner/operators of a locker plant in Socorro, New Mexico. She was a member of Business Professional Women and Beta Sigma Phi. Opal was also a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, James E. Whisenant and wife Barbara of Maysville, Arkansas, and Douglas L. Whisenant and wife Nancy of Anna, Texas; one daughter, Mary Frances Hancock and husband Reuben of Amarillo, Texas; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 8, 2013, at Wasson Memorial Chapel, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, with Mr. Larry Ellis officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs. Burial will be in Tucumcari, New Mexico, on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Mexico Boys Ranch, PO Box 5000, Boys Ranch, NM 87002.
