Margaret Jean Sims Whisenant

SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA - Margaret J. Whisenant, 69, of Sebastian, died Saturday, February 3, 2001 at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born January 5, 1932 in Fairfield, CT the daughter of John F. and Rose McKay Sims.

Brought up in Johnstown, NY, she was a 1949 graduate of Fonda, NY High School.

Upon graduation she entered the Women's Army Corps and participated in the Korean Conflict serving on Okinawa where she met her husband Charles.

She retired from work with the Federal government after 34 years in 1986 and moved to Sebastian from Woodbridge, VA.

During her tenure with the government she worked at the Pentagon and managed high budget expenditures as a Budget Analyst. She retired from Coldwell Banker Ed Schlitt LC in December due to her illness.

She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Sebastian, Occoquan Order of the Eastern Star #59 in Woodbridge, VA., The Sebastian Woodcarvers, and the VFW of Englewood, FL.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Lowe of Woodbridge, VA and Susan Whisenant of Sebastian; three sisters, Adelaide Wojciechowski, Ruth Brassard of Sebastian, and Rose Heagle of Englewood, two brothers, Edward Sims of Springfield, MA and John Sims of Bristol, CT & N. Hutchinson Island. Two nieces of Sebastian, Louise Muller and Arline Hoffhine. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, several other nieces and nephews. Margaret also leaves behind several dear friends and her beloved pets and companions, Peanut, Tiny, Scooter and Shadow.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Charles C. and son Charles F. Whisenant.

Margaret volunteered many years for both the Environmental Learning Center and The North County Library.

Due to her love of the river, nature and the Sebastian area, as a tribute to her a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the ELC, 255 Live Oak Drive (off 510 Causeway) on Thursday, February 8 at 3 p.m. with Reverend Lawrence Koss officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in her name be made to the ELC, 255 Live Oak Drive, Vero Beach, FL 32962 or the Humane Society of Vero Beach, 4701 41st St., Vero Beach, FL 32967.

Fountainhead Memorial Funeral Home, Palm Bay is handling the arrangements.

Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery with full military honors later this month.
