Vernon Henry "Whis" Whisenant

Vernon Henry "Whis" Whisenant, 87, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on July 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Robert Whisenant and Addie Clay Whisenant. Vernon was a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church and loved to garden. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Laura Ellen Lingafelt Whisenant of the home; a daughter, Nina W. Harding and her husband, Garry, of Morganton; a grandson, Jeff Harding and his wife, Yvonne, of Concord, NC; a great-granddaughter, Zoe Harding of Concord; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, Dewey, Guy, Herman, and Harold Whisenant; and an infant sister, Louise.

The graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Clyde Buckner and Rev. Dr. Mike Odom officiating. Military honors will be provided by the N. C. National Guard the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
