Charles L. Whisenant

Chesapeake - Charles Lindbergh Whisenant, "CWhis", died peacefully at home on April 13, 2014. Born in St. Clair, Alabama on December 22, 1933, he was predeceased by his parents, Jess E. and Elizabeth Mae Whisenant; brother, James A. Whisenant; and son, Steven Whisenant. He was a U.S. Army veteran and in the automobile business since 1950.

Charlie was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church; Golden Rule Sunday School Class; founder and president of Sebrell Hunt Lodge since 1958; Moose Lodge 898; and South Norfolk Ruritan Club. He was a Captain with the Chesapeake Auxiliary Sheriff Dept. and active in the Lake Taylor Hospital Auxiliary.

Charlie married Peggy E. Whitehurst in 2003 after a lengthy courtship. He is survived by his brother, Guy W. Whisenant; sister, Jessie Mae Whisenant; son, Jeffrey Scott Whisenant (Laura); daughters, Pamela W. Baldwin (Lawrence) and Patricia W. Crute (David); and grandchildren, Jeff, Chris, Shannon, Patrick, and Matthew.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Apr. 18, at 11 AM in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. David Drinkard. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. is in charge. A memorial service will follow at 1 PM in Aldersgate UMC.
