Dolly Cloud Bowling Whisnant
Dolly Whisnant Bowling, age 80, of Sullivan Avenue, Hudson, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. She was born July 16, 1933 in Watauga County to the late Mary M. Cloud. She was raised by her beloved grandparents, Lydia and Thomas Moser. In addition to her mother and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles F. Whisnant, Jr.; second husband, William R. Bowling; granddaughter, Lydia Dawn Whisnant; and great-grandchild, Johnathan Harley Dunford.
Mrs. Bowling was a private nursing assistant. She was a founding member of Crossroads Community Church, where she and her great-grandson, Jacob McLean and close friend, Rosa Brown worshiped the Lord together.
Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Whisnant and wife Lynn of Hudson and Billy Ray Whisnant and wife Lori of Hickory; three daughters, Mrs. Linda Bohler and husband Robert and Mrs. Betty Phillips and husband John, both of Lenoir and Mrs. Charlotte Hunt and husband Charles of Miami, Florida; one brother, Maynard McCloud and wife Frances of Granite Falls; one sister, Mrs. Viola Hoke of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Kristy Dodson and husband Darian, Jamie Whisnant and wife Janet, Lisa Rodwell and husband Robby, Randall Bohler, Ivan Hunt and wife Claudia, Valerie Hunt, Michelle Reed and husband Josiah, Marc Whisnant and wife Sharon, Joshua McLean and Ashley Dunford; numerous great-grandchildren, other family members, church family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Crossroads Community Church conducted by Rev. Rick Bowman and Speaker Bill Brown. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
