Cecil Whisenhunt
Cecil Eugene "Gene" Whisenhunt, 69 year old Checotah resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He was born on Sunday, February 18, 1945 to Cecil and Joy (Vaught) Whisenhunt in McAlester, OK.
Gene grew up around the Spiro area where he received his education. On Thursday, September 16, 1965 Gene enlisted in the United States Army where he served faithfully and received his Honorable Discharge in 1974.
On Friday, January 3, 1975 he married Kathy Priddy in Poteau, OK. Gene worked as a diesel mechanic and later became a truck driver working for various companies. He loved fishing, camping, and was a collector of John Wayne and Elvis Presley Memorabilia. Gene was a loving father and grandfather who adored his children and grandkids.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry, Ronnie and Ricky Whisenhunt and sister, Mary Whisenhunt. He is lovingly survived by his wife Kathy of the home; daughters, Dana Flagg and husband Kenneth, Tyjuana Jean "T.J." Apodaca and husband Lee, Cecil "Tuffy" Whisenhunt and his wife Veronica Rubalcaba; Alice Whisenhunt and Jeremy Coffman and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandy Jordan and Lois Thompson and husband Bill.
Service celebrating the life of Cecil "Gene" Whisenhunt will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Serenity Chapel of Garrett Family Funeral Home with Reverend Josh McElyea officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. Cecil Whisenhunt, Jeremy Coffman, Michael Whisenhunt and Kenny Flagg will serve as Casket Bearers.
