Vera (Whisenant) Pendergrass

Graveside services for Vera (Whisenant) Pendergrass, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in the Gann Cemetery with Bro. Larry Chalker officiating. Mrs. Pendergrass was born November 8, 1931 in Lufkin and passed away June 28, 2014 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Jettie Viola (Case) and Finis Whisenant. She married Vernon Tanner Pendergrass on June 23, 1956. She was a wonderful wife and a great mother. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and was good at finding a bargain. She had a very good business sense and was retired as vice president of Woodforest Bank. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She is survived by husband of 58 years, Vernon Tanner Pendergrass of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Terry Childs of Houston; son, Rusty Pendergrass of Missouri City, TX; granddaughters, Amanda Erebia, Amy Lynch, Amber Thibodeaux and Madison Pendergrass; grandson, Will Pendergrass; and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sister, Margie Bowser. Pallbearers will be Mickey Bowser, Louis Erebia, Michael Holland, Jim Byerley, Terry Childs and Will Pendergrass. Honorary pallbearers will be Susan Childs and Rusty Pendergrass. The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Gann Cemetery. Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
