Linda Elizabeth (Lackey) Whisnant
February 24, 1939 - July 15, 2014
Linda Elizabeth Lackey Whisnant, 75, of Morganton, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Mrs. Whisnant was born in Burke County, North Carolina on February 24, 1939 to the late Fred Lee & Zetta Clark Lackey. She was married to the late James Robert Whisnant, who preceded her in death in 2008. Mrs. Whisnant was a health care technician at the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center in Morganton, where she retired after many years of dedicated service. Mrs. Whisnant was a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church in Morganton. She was an outdoor enthusiast who loved horses, gardening, and was especially fond of flowers. She enjoyed crocheting and reading, but most of all, Mrs. Whisnant loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Whisnant was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Jimmy, and Jack; and a sister, Sylvia.
Survivors include four daughters, Arlene Freeman of Valdese, Darlene Crotts & husband Mike of Valdese, Brenda Whisnant & husband Harry Poovey of Hickory, and Regina Roper & husband Vince of Morganton; a son, James Michael Whisnant of Morganton; four brothers, Tony, Ted, Larry, and Danny; a sister, Lynn; four grandchildren, Tana Black & husband Jonathan of Morganton, Matthew Crotts & Caitlyn Rhoney of Valdese, Grayson Roper of Morganton, and Wade Roper of Morganton; three great grandchildren, Kendall Freeman of Morganton, Baylee Freeman of Morganton, and Landon Crotts of Valdese; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with Rev. Johnny McCarty officiating. Interment will follow at the Victory Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
