Barbara Whisenant

Barbara Knight Whisenant of Westbrook Street, Lenoir, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Valdese Hospital. She was born in Caldwell County to the late Dora Bryant Knight. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lankie L. Whisenant Sr.; son, Lankie L. Whisenant Jr.; and sisters, Georgia Younce, Myrtle Younce and Eletha Waters.

Mrs. Whisenant was a secretary for John’s Precision Auto Body in Marion and was a member of Gamewell United Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Leonard Whisenant and wife Anita of Wilmington, and Claude Richard Whisenant and wife Julia of Mills River; two daughters, Charlene Warhurst of Marion, and Cynthia Lee Mashburn and husband John of Marion; one sister, Mavis Knight Allred of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Dora Lynn Clark of Hickory, Cynthia Ann Cannon of Granite Falls, Troy Chester Warhurst Jr. of Lenoir, Katherine Marie Whisenant of Wilmington, Michael James Mashburn and Aaron Lee Mashburn, both of Marion, and Wesley Daniel Whisenant, Zachary Joseph Whisenant and Luke Andrew Whisenant, all of Mills River; special friend Doug Metz of Hickory; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by grandson Wesley D. Whisenant and other family members. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be co-workers from John’s Precision Auto Body.
