Melanie "Mel" Whisenant

Gaffney, S.C. - Melanie "Mel" Blanton Whisenant, 52, of 106 Hillside Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Kevin Morris Whisenant and the daughter of Nancy Canipe Blanton of Gaffney and the late Gary Wilson Blanton.

She was a graduate of Gaffney High School, Spartanburg Technical College and attended USC. She was a member of Gaffney Elks Lodge, enjoyed golfing, an avid Gamecock and Oregon Duck fan and had a great love for animals, especially her dog, Harley. Mrs. Whisenant was a dental assistant for Dr. William Morris and was a member of Limestone Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her mother, also surviving is a brother, Gary W. (Chip) Blanton Jr. of Gaffney; a sister, Kimberly Lane Blanton and special friend, Carl Ramsey of Gaffney; a nephew, Blake Whisenant; a niece, Whitney Whisenant; a special cousin, Josh Thomas; numerous cousins; and many special friends.
