Mary Frances Costner Whisnant

Mrs. Mary Frances Costner Whisnant, 67, of Morganton, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 at her residence, following a period of declining health.

Mary was born on May 6, 1947 in Caldwell County to the late Clyde Costner and Mary Craig Mouton. She worked at Myra's Ice Cream in her early years and then worked as a custodian at Valdese Elementary School until her retirement.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna R. Whisnant.

Surviving are her two daughters, Tonia D. Elliott, and Kimberley A Pope and husband David, and three grandchildren; Jonathan " Blake" Willis, Mary " Courtney" Pope and Emily D. Elliott. Also surviving are two sisters, Barbara Saunders and husband Roger, Linda Freeze and husband Allen, nieces, Jaime Jenkins, Kristie Jenkins and Sarah Hayes, and great nieces and nephews, Andrew Jenkins, Kaitlin Johnson, Colby Jenkins and Grayson Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Chaplain Larry Cronk officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
