Darryl E. Whisnant

Darryl Edward Whisnant, 72, of Drexel, passed away unexpectedly Thursday August 14, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Whisnant was born on March 10, 1942 in Burke County to the late Edward Whisnant and Leta McGalliard Whisnant. He was a graduate of Oak Hill High School and Appalachian State University, and graduated with his EDS from Western Carolina University. Darryl was a Teacher, Principal, and Administrator with Burke County Public Schools, retiring from the superintendants office as Media Director. He was a former member of Grace Episcopal Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and very active in church activities for many years. Most recently he was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his son, Shawn Whisnant of Cary; one sister, Brenda Thurston of West Jefferson and his niece Heather and his nephew Nathan.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 17, 2014 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Officiating will be Rev. Amy Freeze. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
