Jimmy Dalton Whisenhunt

Jimmy Dalton Whisenhunt, 65, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 in Abilene, Texas at Hendrick Medical Center.

Born in Merkel, Texas on June 20, 1949, he was the son of Freda Glen (Kinsey) and Dewey Bryant Whisenhunt. He graduated from Merkel High School and attended college for two years. He married Nita Joan Scott on January 10, 1974. He was a member of Highway 36 Church of Christ.

Jimmy was an appliance repairman for 30 years, having worked for West Texas Utilities, Battles Home Improvement, West Texas Appliance and Lowes Home Improvement.

Jimmy was a superior craftsman and could build anything with his hands. He loved to camp and fish with his family. He also loved to play softball and was a member of the Rabbits Softball Team.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Paul Whisenhunt.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nita Whisenhunt of Abilene; children, Ronnye Steele, Tommy Hagar, Teresa Cannon and husband Scott, Willa Jaramillo and husband Eddie; eight grandchildren, Bryson, Shae, Magan, Jeremi, Branson, Shelby, Chris and Kaitlin; and nine great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his siblings, Barbara and Jim Willson, and Johnny Whisenhunt and Jackie and Janet Whisenhunt.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Greg Melton and Bryson Hurt officiating. Burial will follow in Drummond Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 27, at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Branson Hurt, Jeremi Garcia, Chris Hagar, Justin Ramos, Joseph Whisenhunt and Devin Whisenhunt.
