Catherine Howie Whisnant
Catherine Elizabeth Howie Whisnant, age 79, died Sunday January 11, 2015 at her home. Born in Cleveland County on April 10, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Harry Howie and Sallie Lou Lattimore Howie Carpenter and her step father, Adam Carpenter. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. She retired from Eaton Corporation and worked part time at the Dollar General Store in Shelby. Catherine was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed interior decorating, ceramics, and crosswords.
Catherine is survived by her husband of 61 years, Eddie Whisnant; two sons, Jimmy Whisnant and wife Mary of Bessemer City and Jake Whisnant and wife Beverly of Boiling Springs; two daughters, Debra Vanhoy and husband John of Charlotte, and Wendy Callahan and husband Frank of Cherryville; a sister, Shirley Carroll of Newton; and a brother, J. G. Howie and wife Betty of Polkville; ten grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday January 14, 2015 at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Dr. Rit Varriale the Rev. Clinton Padgett officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Hospice Cleveland County for all their love and care that Catherine received, and also Elizabeth Baptist Church, staff, and the Marietta Floyd Sunday School Class.
