Doris Whisonant Nugent
Mrs. Doris Whisonant Nugent, age 83 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015.
Born Monday, December 7, 1931 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her Father, Walter Clyde Whisonant, Mother, Betty Stroud Whisonant Gilcrease, Husband, Ben Edgar Nugent, Son, James Ben Nugent, Daughter, Beverly Nugent Shewbridge, Daughter-in-law, Charlotte Waters Nugent, and Brother, James Clyde "Jimmy" Whisonant.
Mrs. Nugent was a loving mother and grandmother who was full of life, vim, and vigor. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield, as well as an active member for 67 years of the Everett S. Fick American Legion Auxillary where she served as president from 1996 - 2000.
Mrs. Nugent was retired from Winnfield Senior High School as Cafeteria Food Supervisor, as well as the Winn Parish CCA, where she served as a Culinary Arts Instructor. She was an avid reader, an enthusiastic fan of history, and a patriotic American who had an immense appreciation for the value of education. She was best known for her hospitality and incredible talent in the kitchen.
Those left to cherish her memory include her Granddaughter, Bonnie Nugent Gremillion, Grandson, Matthew Benjamin Nugent, Grandson, James Steven Long, Granddaughter, Stephanie Long, Great Grandchildren, Layla Long, Colton Long, Eva Gremillion, and Julia Gremillion, Brothers, Noah B. Gilcrease, Jr., and Glenn Gilcrease, Sisters, Julie Boyett and Jackie Eubanks, and a Host of Nieces and Nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 13, 2015, at Southern Funeral Home, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Southern Funeral Home, from 9:00 AM until time of services.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Franklin and Rev. Billy Verhoef officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield.
