Irene Whisnant Powell

Irene Whisnant Powell, 80, of Morganton died Saturday, April 11, 2015. Irene was born January 23, 1935 in Burke County to the late Jimmie Lee Whisnant and Sally Louise Whisnant Whisnant. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Irene never meet a stranger. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church and a Godly woman, she loved the Lord, Irene retired from Burke County Public Schools.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Powell; brother, Calvin Whisnant; and sisters, Margaret Benfield and Ethel Kincaid.

Irene is survived by her sons, Bruce Powell and wife, Susan and Brad Powell; sister, Naomi Freeman and Granville; grandchildren, Michael Shane Powell and wife, Miranda, Scotty Powell, Shasta Taylor, and Brandy Powell and McGarrett McManus.

The service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Zion Baptist Church with Reverends. Keith Rose and David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
