Arthur Drane Whisnant

Arthur Drane Whisnant 93 of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Magnolia Manor of Columbus.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby with Dr. Richard M. Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Arthur Drane Whisnant was born on November 12, 1921 in Draneville, Georgia to the late Richard Larry Whisnant and Mary Ann Miller Whisnant. He was a WWII Veteran and has lived in Columbus since 1939. He retired from Sol Loeb Co. as a wholesale grocery salesman after 37 years of service. Mr. Whisnant was a member of Upatoi United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday school class. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. Mr. Whisnant was preceded in death also by his wife Zelma E. Whisnant, sisters, Betty Whisnant Bussey and Willie Whisnant Moon; brother, Richard Larry "J" Whisnant Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia D. Cone Whisnant; son, Daniel D. (Tina) Whisnant of Midland, GA; grandchildren Melissa Whisnant (Bryant) Register and Matthew Daniel Whisnant; great-grandson, Cole Ericson Register; stepson, Howell (Vicki) Cone of Columbus; stepdaughters, Joyce Cone Mayher of Midland, GA, Janice Cone Loper of Columbus, GA; numerous other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Upatoi United Methodist Church, 13730 Macon Rd, Upatoi, Georgia 31829.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
