Mildred Whisenhunt

Mildred "Mamaw" Whisenhunt went home to be with her Lord on May 2, 2015 after 89 wonderful years of laughter, hard work, and quick-witted jokes. Mamaw was born to Archie Faulks (deceased) and Viola Newman Faulks (deceased) on December 19, 1925 in Abilene, Texas. In July 1947, Mamaw married Harold Whisenhunt (deceased). Always keeping her one favorite picture of them hung in her bedroom, Mamaw enjoyed recounting countless stories of their 41 years of marriage to her children and grandchildren.

Mamaw cherished her family above all else, always demanding hugs, and never using the word "in-law" when referencing her newest family members. Mamaw is preceded in death by Doyle Faulks (brother) and Gordon Faulks (brother). She is survived by Neta Ruth Wootten (sister), Tressie Henderson (daughter), and Gary Henderson (son-in-love). Mamaw's greatest treasures were her grandchildren, and she lovingly served and spoiled Rusty Faulkner (grandson), Michele Faulkner (grandaughter-in-love), Matthew Henderson (grandson), and Heather Henderson (grandaughter-in-love).

Mamaw graduated from Abilene High School where she was an avid volleyball player. Some of Mamaw's fondest and proudest memories were those surrounding the volleyball net, and her position as "spiker" perfectly captured Mamaw's "go-getter" personality and her continued enthusiasm for life.

Mamaw believed everyone should work and work hard. She was employed at Banner Creamery, Munden Wholesale, Gooch Packing Company, and even mowed her own lawn until she was 83. Always a woman who appreciated the simple things in life, Mamaw loved walks down country roads, watching Dallas Cowboy football with her grandsons, solving word puzzles, and reading her Bible. Mamaw's greatest trade was her cooking, and Mamaw's famous "Mac-and-Cheese" was as necessary and anticipated on Christmas Day as the presents.

A memorial service will be held on May 7, 2015 at Harvest Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas at 11:00am. Following the service Pastor Roy Meksch will officiate a graveside service at Drummond Cemetery under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home at 12:30pm.

Mamaw's family requests that memorials be sent to Hendrick Hospice of Abilene.
