William M. Whisnant

UNION, SC-- Mr. William McPhillips 'Phil' Whisnant, age 90, of 416 Peach Orchard Rd., Union, widower of Corrie Farr Whisnant, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Heartland of Union.

Mr. Whisnant was born in Lockhart, March 2, 1925, a son of the late William and Rhoda Sealey Whisnant. He was retired from Milliken Co., Monarch Plant and was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. Mr. Whisnant served as a former Monarch Fire Chief and was a member of the John A. Fant Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Debbie W. Cavender; two sons, Bruce H. Whisnant and wife Iris and Danny Joe Whisnant all of Union; a special girlfriend, Carol Austin of Union; a special cousin, L.B. Sealey of West Chester; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Whisnant was predeceased by a sister, Leverne Willard.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 1, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Smith and Chaplain Joey Bodie.

The family will receive friends immediately following the services in the chapel. Staff and nurses of Blue Ridge Hospice, Upstate Medical and Heartland of Union, along with Carl Lewis, Danny Hawkins, Hubert Sanders, Ronnie Gault, Gerald Vaughan, Freddie Barfield, Donald Robinson, Paul Kent Foster, Randy George, Tommy Knox, Tommy Rawlings, Kent Orr, Shawn McCormick, Halon Duckett, and Jeff Whitt are all asked to sit in a group. Memorials may be made to Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, 557 Kelly Rd., Union, SC 29379 or to Morningside Baptist Church, 112 Bates Ave., Union, SC 29379 or to Monarch Fire Dept, c/o Dr. John Flood, 105 Heritage Way, Union, SC 29379. The family will be at their respective homes.
