Mrs. Wicks was a longtime member of Steele Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Homemaker's Sunday School Class, and also served 25 years as Sunday School General Secretary. She was instrumental in beginning the Samaritan's Purse/Shoe Box Ministry and helped oversee its progress for over 19 years. Blakey loved her church and her church family, and it was shown through her enthusiasm for Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and all service projects. Mrs. Wicks was a proud sales representative for World Book Encyclopedia and strongly believed everyone should own a set. Her passion for education was shown through her endeavors with her church, her encyclopedia sales and at Steele Junior High School, where she frequently served as a substitute teacher. A loving mother, grandmother and friend, she was proud of her family and her home. Blakey worked diligently as a homemaker: canning, sewing and raising her children to honor and follow the Lord. Mrs. Wicks was preceded in death by her husband, James A. "Pete" Wicks; and by her sister, Claudia Lee Whisnant.
She leaves behind daughters, Dr. Suzanne Gilliland (husband, Manuel), Lorraine Smith (husband, Wayne); son, Terry Wicks (wife, Peggy); six grandchildren, Melinda (Abram), Allen (Karie), Trenton (Lindsay), Micah, Justin and Jacob. Along with 11 "great-grands."

She is also survived by her special friends: Sue Meadows, Doris Jackson, Argyle Glascow, Helen Battles, Cheryl Davenport and the ladies of the Homemakers Sunday School Class at Steele Baptist Church. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the third-floor staff at Riverview Regional Medical Center, especially Emily and Tyra. Thanks also to the compassionate staff of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice.
The family will accept flowers, or memorials may be made to Steele Baptist Church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Morgan Chapel. .
