Albert Whisnant

Polkville — Mr. Albert Whisnant, of 4628 Casar Road, died of heart failure Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Whisnant was the son of the late Bruce and Nettie Warlick Whisnant and was born on the ancestral farm of his grandparents where he acquired a strong work ethic. He loved farming, even the days of growing and picking cotton and the later years of dairy farming. He had happy memories of farm life, always liked being outdoors and was a good gardener. He enjoyed working the earth and planting vegetables. His fall garden is flourishing.

He was a gentle, kind person who always looked after his family and helped others when needed. He was a lifelong member of the Polkville United Methodist Church and his woodwork can be found throughout the church. Through the years he made many wooden items for the UMW Christmas Bazaar. In everything he did, it had to be done right so it would last.

He retired from Phinnix Construction Co. in Gastonia.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maude McSwain Whisnant; a son, Mark Whisnant of Shelby; two daughters, Gail W. Lane and husband Bill of Polkville, and Beth W. White of Shelby; two granddaughters, Ashley W. Ross of Shelby and Jennifer A. Sigmon and husband Barry of Vale; two great-grandsons, Joshua Ross and Wyatt Sigmon; and two sisters, Clevie Spangler and Margaret Queen. Albert loved being outside with Joshua, riding him in his truck. He was looking forward to being a buddy to Wyatt as he grew older. They were the apple of his eye.

Albert was loved and respected by his family and he will always be remembered.
