Charles D. Whisnant

Charles Donald "Bud" Whisnant Sr., 74, 154 Hazelwood Hollow Road, Hampton, died thursday, November 27, 2003, in Mountain Area Hospice, Asheville, N.C. a native of Cleveland County, N.C., he was a son of the lat Ivey and Veva C. Spangler Whisnant. He had lived in Carter county for the past 18 years. He had formerly been employed at the Stamey Funneral Home, Fallston, N.C., and was retired employee of the Carer County Highway Department. he was a member of the Union Baptist Church of Hampton.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Paul Wilson, Lawn Dale, N.C.; tow sons and daughters-in-law, Charles donald whisnant Jr. and Nita whisnant and David and Lois Whisnant, all of Lawn Dale, N.C.; five grandchildren, Donnie Whisnant, Brad Whisnant and his wife, Crystal, Jeff Whisnant and his wife, Deryn, Karen Dellinger and Chris Dellinger; one stepgrandchild; for great-granddaughters; two step-great-granddaughters; one brother: Eddie Whisnant, Shelby, N.C.; two sisters, Libby Hughes, Tarboro, N.C.; and Alice Bell, Lettimore, N.C.; a special friend, Ann Stepp, Hampton; a number of nieces and nephews; one honorary son and daughter-in-law, William and Madga Townsend; and three honorary grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 6 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Haskel Ingram, the Rev. Bobby Stout and the Rev. Larmar Hewett officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at the United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pokeville, N.C. The Union Baptist Church Choir and Amy Bennett, pianist, provided the music. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Blevins, Dean Burchette, James Norris, Jimmy Matherly, Smith Davenport, Gary Shingleton and Bill Julian. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Whitehead, Martin Bennett, Len Wright, Arnold Clark, Robert Pearson, Ray Buck, Darrell Holly, Carl Hazelwood, Bobby White, Jess Cable, Ray Hodge, Albert Proffitt, E.C. Vines, Bud Johnson, Richard Tester, Glenn Tester, Willie Gleton and men of the Union Baptist Church. The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
