JAMES E. WHISNANT

HICKORY - James Edgar Whisnant, 56, of Lincolnton Highway, Newton, died Nov. 21, 2003, at his residence after a period of declining health.

Born Aug. 6, 1947, in Catawba County, he was a son of Fred N. and Alice Abernethy Whisnant Sr.

A member of Grace Lutheran Church, he retired from General Electric after 25 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1969 to 1971.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred N. Whisnant, and a brother, Fred N. Whisnant Jr.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, Alice Abernethy Whisnant of the home, include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera Whisnant Bowman and Chester of Union Grove and Ann Whisnant Kanipe and Paul of Hickory; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Daniel Robert Whisnant and Carolyn of Asheboro, Ted William Whisnant of the home, and Jerry Abernethy Whisnant and Margaret and Joe Dwight Whisnant of Newton; eight nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Michael Whisnant; and great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted by Dr. Larry J. Yoder at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Grace Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery.
