Ruth Whisonant
NEWTON - Ruth Whisonant, 93, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Abernathy Center in Newton.
A native of Sharon, S.C., she was born May 28, 1908. She was the daughter of the late Etta Whitesides and Dennis A. Whisonant. She attended Winthrop University and earned an education degree from E.C.T. C. (now East Carolina University). She taught at Lattimore Elementary School and then lived and taught in Elizabethtown, Gibson and Aberdeen before coming to Lincolnton. In Lincolnton, she taught at the Grammar School and then at S. Ray Lowder Elementary School until her retirement. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lincolnton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Paul M. Whisonant; and a sister, Mary A. Whisonant.
She is survived by her nephew, Don S. Whisonant, DDS, of Lincolnton and Beaufort, S.C.; and a cousin, Lucille Bankhead of Shelby.
A graveside service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton.
