Charles A. Whisnant
1929 - 2008
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Charles Anthony Whisnant, 79, of 4927 E. Dixon Blvd., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Charles Craig Whisnant and Brownie Hambright Whisnant. Charles served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947 with the rank of Private Basic Soldier, Firefighter. He was the owner and operator of Whisnant's Citgo for 39 years and Engines and Blades for 10 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His favorite pastime was gardening and sharing his vegetable bounty with family, neighbors and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Guinn Whisnant and Wray Whisnant; son, Michael A. Whisnant; and grandson, Clark McDaniel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lunette Lewis Whisnant of the home; daughter, Kim Whisnant McDaniel and husband, Mike McDaniel, and their children, Michael McDaniel Jr. and wife, Ashley Potter McDaniel, and their daughter, Clarklynn McDaniel, Morgan McDaniel and Maggie McDaniel of Shelby; son, Charles Craig Whisnant and wife, Denise Taylor Whisnant, and their children, Hunter and Jourdan Whisnant of Shelby; son, David Wray Whisnant of Kings Mountain; and sister, Jeanette Whisnant Patterson and husband, Gene Patterson, of Kings Mountain.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 2, 6 to 8 p.m., Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Funeral: Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2 p.m., Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain
