Robert Whisnant Jr.

Robert Jay Whisnant Jr., 59, of Roby Martin Road, Lenoir, passed away Sunday March 23, 2008, at Frye Regional Medical in Hickory.

Mr. Whisnant was born Sept. 30, 1948, in Caldwell County to the late Robert Jay Whisnant Sr. and Mary Clara Wagner. He was a member of Yadkin Baptist Church, and he was a member of Patterson Fire Department from 1973 to 2008, where he served as fire chief from 1979 to 2003 and served as captain from 2003 until he passed away. He is a current member of Caldwell County Firefighters' Association and N.C. Firefighters' Association. He was a past member of N.C. Association of Fire Chiefs.

Mr. Whisnant is survived by his wife, Delores “Dolly” Ellen Moore of the home; one son, David Allen Whisnant of the home; one sister, Elizabeth Whisnant Berry of Morganton; sisters- in-law, Joyce Clifton of Lenoir, Linda Herold and spouse John of Lenoir, Frances Pennell and spouse Jack of Lenoir, Nelda Robbins and spouse Johnny of Lenoir, T.C. Moore of East Bend; two brothers-in-law, Gene Moore and spouse Treva of Lenoir, Trev Moore and spouse Susan of Hickory; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Whisnant will be Wednesday March 26, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Yadkin Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Livingston, the Rev. Henry Cook and Mr. Dale Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Yadkin Baptist Church.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Heffern, Ricky Pennell, Dale Coffey, Bob Watson, John Bumgarner, Mike Sutton, Ray Robbins and Doug Bryant. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be past and present members of the Patterson Fire Department.
