JOHN F. WHISNANT
MORGANTON - John F. Whisnant, 84, of Ford Road, Morganton, died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.
He was born in Burke County on Oct. 31, 1920, and was the son of the late William James Whisnant and Bertha Mae Harris Whisnant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Bill and Dan Whisnant.
Mr. Whisnant was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the European and African theaters. He retired from civil service after 36 years of service and was a member of the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge 217. John was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Tathiana Montagna Whisnant of the home; his son, James F. Whisnant and wife, Pat, of Morganton; his daughter, Veronica “Susy” Tilley and husband, Jim, of Morganton; four brothers, Paul Whisnant and Manley Whisnant of Morganton and Melvin Whisnant and Bobby Whisnant of Valdese; four sisters, Dorothy Moose of Rutherford College, Betty Abee of Connelly Springs, Mary Alice Shull of Drexel and Sarah Bowman of Valdese; a grandchild, Alex Tilley; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Grace Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Larry Britt officiating. Military rites will be conducted by members of American Legion Post 234.
