Christopher Whisnant

Christopher Whisnant, 50, of Old NC 18, Morganton, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Carolina Rehab of Burke in Connelly Springs, following a period of declining health. He was born Oct. 21, 1957, in Burke County and was a son of Manly Hamilton Whisnant of Morganton and the late Hazel Ardenia Powell Whisnant. Christopher was a member of Calvary Assembly of God. In addition to his father, Christopher is survived by a son, Joshua Michael Whisnant of Antioch, Calif.; sisters, Phyllis Smith, Karen Butler and Lori Taylor, all of Morganton, Connie Hartzog of Valdese and Georgia Greer of Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary H. Whisnant. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Assembly of God with the Rev. Mike Whisnant officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Valdese American Legion Post No. 234. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 until 3 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 405 Old NC, Apt. 114, Morganton.
