He During the last half of 1870, the former paper commented editorially that many Walton citizens were beginning to favor a stock law. A 4th of July "pic-nic" was announced for Old Good Hope, with 2 balloons to be raised and a basket dinner served. W. T. Kimbro and O. H. Brooks advertised a barbecue to be held in Monroe at 50 cents per head, with separate tables for the ladies.
William Brooks was born on 1 December 1782 in NC; Note: William is NOT the son of John Hanna Brooks III as many people have thought in the past. There is said to be DNA evidence to prove this. (Per: Benton L. "Brooks" Fletcher, LaFayette, GA).
William Brooks was buried in Brooks Cem., Walton Co., GA, 33.790000,-83.782500; *The Brooks Family Cemetery is located on H.D. Atha Road, about 3.5 miles west of Monroe, the county seat, and 1.7 miles south of East/west US Highway 78. H.D. Atha Road is connected to Hwy 78 by North/South Youth Monroe Road. It is located in Georgia Militia District 421 (known in public records as "Brooks District") and is on the 250 acre tract of original grant land that William Brooks purchased from Rev. Jesse Mercer in 1823.

He died in February 1868 in Walton Co., GA, at age 85; He also married Jane Chivers.1
William Brooks It is also "family tradition", listed in Kellam's "Brooks and Kindred Families", that William was a soldier in the War of 1812.
William is also noted as a War of 1812 soldier in a published "Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia" (page 35) under the name John H. Brooks.

He Name appears on the Muster Roll of Capt. William Patrick's Co., composed of the first class of Georgia State Militia from the 29th Regiment, in conformity with orders received 2 Jun 1814. This was a Morgan County Militia Unit and the Muster Roll is included in the Georgia Military records on the shelves at the Georgia Archives in Atlanta, GA. On this roll, in Jul 1814, he is listed as "Removed" with no reason given, possibly for health or personal reasons (being 31 yers of age and with 7 children 12 years of age and uder might have been reason enough). on 16 July 1814.
