He was born on a small farm near Buchanan, Georgia, where he spent his boyhood. He says that his parents were people of limited means, and it was a hard job to wrestle a living from that poor farm. While living on the farm, Eph learned many things that would help him through life - things such as the love of books, the virtues of honesty, integrity, and dignity. Eph's father taught him 'to do without' in a way that made Eph feel it was the proper thing to do instead of a disgrace. Eph received his degrees from Mercer University, Macon, GA., and from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was the author of the book Whisenhunt Syllabus.
